Dermaplaning is a manual resurfacing treatment, using a disposable surgical steel blade. Dermaplaning also removes vellus hair, to reveal a smoother surface.
The treatment begins with a thorough cleanse to prepare the skin for the dermaplaning exfoliation. We take this treatment a step further by following the dermaplaning portion with a hydrating and soothing mask and cold globe massage to provide the best result and experience with dermaplaning.
During your treatment you can expect your esthetician to evaluate your skin, give you instructions during the treatment and provide you with additional skincare recommendations.
There is no preparation time for dermaplaning.
Your esthetician can answer any questions before and after treatment, but it is best to avoid talking or expression during treatment to ensure safety when using the blade.
After Dermaplaning your skin will be smooth and have a hydrated glow, but it is recommended to NOT exfoliate the day of or day before your treatment to avoid over-exfoliation.
It is important to maintain skin hydration with serums, moisturizers and protective products. We also recommend avoiding exfoliation for 3-5 days after treatment.
After 5-7 days, it is beneficial to use an enzyme mask (can be done at home), to appropriately even the skin surface, removing cell buildup without compromising over exfoliation.
Dermaplaning is not done over active breakouts to avoid skin injury or spreading bacteria. If you are experiencing active breakouts on the day of your appointment we can adjust your appointment for a treatment that will better suit your present need.
Other things that would keep someone from being able to receive dermaplaning include raised lesions, recent chemical peel procedures, eczema or dermatitis, hemophilia, history of keloids, blood thinner medications, rosacea, skin cancer, sunburn, use of accutane in the last year.
Our Dermaplaning is a stand alone treatment. During the treatment you can expect your skin to be cleansed, evaluated, dermaplaned, treated with a soothing mask, cooled with cryotherapy and finishing products.
No, the blade skims the surface which creates a more relaxing experience.
